2 - Express Revelation PDF
The Trinity

From 15th November 2007:

Last time we looked at God's progressive revelation of himself as one God in three persons. This time we will consider his express revelation of this doctrine.

Background

We need to start with a definition, and for that we will use the following:

“God eternally exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and each person is fully God, and there is one God.”

This is a widely misunderstood and often denied doctrine, but it is actually a vital doctrine for us to understand just who God is and what he is doing.

Express Revelation

In the New Testament the Trinity is expressly revealed in a number of different passages, identifying distinct roles for the members of the Godhead. We are going to unpack what the New Testament has to say about their roles over the next few weeks, but at this stage please look up the following passages in context and see if you can identify which person of the Trinity does …

  1. Matthew 3:16-17
    • The Father:
    • The Son:
    • The Holy Spirit:
  2. 2 Corinthians 13:14
    • The Father:
    • The Son:
    • The Holy Spirit:
  3. 1 Peter 1:2
    • The Father:
    • The Son:
    • The Holy Spirit:
  4. Jude 20-21
    • The Father:
    • The Son:
    • The Holy Spirit:
