In this session, we will look at what the Bible has to say about the church by way of introduction. We will cover three main topics: Jesus and the Church, The Nature of the Church and How do we 'do' Church.

Jesus and the Church

The Lord Jesus said while he was on earth: “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” (Matthew 16:18)

He has been doing that ever since!

Indeed, this is important to him (Ephesians 5:25-27).

The Church is central to Jesus’ eternal plan and he has been exalted to a position of highest authority for the sake of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23).

We must therefore endeavour both to understand and formulate ‘church’ as best we can from what he has told us.
