From 29th March 2007: In this session we will consider what it means to pray with faith. BackgroundLast time we started unpacking some of the misunderstood considerations in effective prayer: We considered “Praying according to God’s will” in which we have teaching (Matthew 6:10; 1 John 5:14-15) but also example (Matthew 26:39). The example of the NT makes clear that we know God’s will according to what he has said in the scriptures: Acts 4:25-26; John 15:7. We also saw from Paul’s experience (1 Corinthians 12:9-10) and Jesus' experience (Matthew 26:39-46) that sometimes God’s answer can be ‘No’ for our eternal good and his eternal glory. Praying with FaithToday we’re going to ask: “What does ‘Praying with faith’ mean?” Mark 11:24 is potentially very exciting and can be practically very misleading. Looking carefully at the context of the verse, discuss what you understand it to mean. How would you define ‘faith’? (see Hebrews 11:1) In the light of the above, how do you understand passages such as Mark 21:22 and James 1:6.
