4 - Understanding the Lord (2) PDF
The Trinity

From 6th December 2007:

Understanding the Lord

It could not be clearer that God IS three persons. (John 1:1-2; John 17:24; 1 John 2:1; Hebrews 7:25; John 14:26; John 16:7; Romans 8:27)

It is also very clear that each person IS fully God. The Father is clearly God from throughout Scripture. Even as Jesus prays to his Father in heaven, the Father is viewed as sovereign. Yet it is also true that God the Son is fully God.

Please look at the following passages and note how the deity of Christ is expressed:

  • John 1:1-4 (compare this with Genesis 1:1)
  • John 20:25-31
  • Hebrews 1:1-14
  • Isaiah 9:6
  • (We could also look at Titus 2:13; Romans 9:5; Isaiah 40:3; Matthew 3:3; Colossians 2:9)

Finally it is clear that the Holy Spirit is also fully God. Please look at the following passages and note how the deity of the Holy Spirit is clearly expressed:

  • Psalm 139:7-8
  • Acts 5:3-5
  • 1 Corinthians 2:10-11
  • 1 Corinthians 3:16
  • See the parallel between John 3:5-7 and 1 John 3:9
